Welcome to the Official National Termite Survey Website!

This is the fourth update since June 12, 2002.

I would first like to thank each and every participant for collecting and sending me termite samples from all over the U.S., including Hawaii. Information from each collection site has proven to be invaluable data, especially dispersal flight activity.

As of October 1, 2003, I have received over 2,500 samples representing 31 different termite species. Below is the complete distribution map of all termite species received so far for the survey.

This update includes new pictures and distribution maps of different species, including more Formosan subterranean termite pictures from the U.S. and Hong Kong. I plan on updating the website in a month or so with combined dispersal flight information for each species, information on termite detection technology, and additional pages describing the different types of termite research and control currently conducted at New Orleans Mosquito and Termite Control Board.

I designed this website mainly for the participants so they can see what species are currently present in their respective states based on samples received so far. Also, participants can see what species they have sent to me from collection sites in their city and/or region. At the same time, this website was designed so that you can contact me if you have any questions, requests, need information, or would like species identification from any given collection site.

I would like to encourage anyone visiting this website who is not currently participating to contact me if you would be willing to collect termites from your area. If you are willing to participate in this worthwhile survey, then please contact me to send you a termite collecting packet, which includes collecting vials, postage-paid return envelopes, and a termite collecting device.
